THE LITTLE PRINCE NOVEL REVIEW

THE LITTLE PRINCE NOVEL REVIEW

“You become responsible, forever, for what you’ve tamed.”

Title: The Little Prince

Category: Novels

Author and Illustration: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Publisher: Wordsworth Editions Ltd

Number of Pages: 118

Subtitles: Katherine Woods (English)

The book The Little Prince was written by a French pilot, Antoine-Marie-Roger de Saint-Exupéry, during World War II between 1941 and 1943 in exile in America. Due to the strong characteristics of the book, this classic children's fable has been successfully translated into many countries and has become the most translated French book.

From that opening alone Saint-Exupéry has clearly attempted to convey an important topic in this story, namely “how incomprehensible adult thoughts”.

The next part continues with the story of the pilot who has grown into a man and has a profession, when he was flying, his plane crashed right in the middle of the Sahara Desert alone, without any friends, he finally decided to spend the night there. The next morning, in the morning, he who was sleeping on the sand woke up to hear someone talking to him.

The man—in his innocent voice—asked the pilot to describe him as a sheep. The pilot who was dumbfounded and surprised by the sudden and strange request looked at the person before him, a boy, dressed like a prince, with golden yellow hair, and didn't look at all like he was lost in the desert or frightened. After being asked several times, the pilot granted his request. That was the beginning of his first meeting with The Little Prince.

Days went by, the pilot spent his 'stranded' time with the little prince, of course while still trying to justify his plane. They talk to each other and tell stories. From there the pilot learned the story and origins of the Little Prince.

The Little Prince was not a human on earth, he came from a planet in the form of an asteroid, the size of the planet was very small, so small that he could see the sun setting forty-three times just by shifting his sitting position. On his planet there are the seeds of the Baobab tree which he always pulls out every day, there are also several small volcanoes and some that are still active, besides all that, something very special also grows on it, namely a rose, which there's only one on the planet.

From the beginning of his meeting with roses, the Little Prince was already interested. He always praises the beauty of the flower, he always fulfills the request of the flower, he does anything for the flower even though the flower has an extraordinary arrogant nature. Without realizing it, there was a feeling of love that arose between them even though at that time they were still so young. However, the little prince's love was filled with fatigue because the flower was so arrogant in judging himself, in the end, he decided to leave his planet and the adventure began.

Little Prince's journey is a summary of a small number of human characters on this earth. Next is the character of a king who controls a small asteroid, so small that the entire surface of the asteroid is covered by his beautiful cloak. Not because of his large robe but indeed because his territory is so narrow. He felt so powerful that all his orders had to be obeyed, even by his first people. So that the Little Prince would not go, the King appointed him a minister although if no one was to be judged he could try himself. This command made the Little Prince grumble again, "Grownups are so weird."

The king, who considers everyone to be his people, reflects the character of an arrogant person who considers everyone to be his admirer. He didn't hear the little prince's question because all he heard was praise. According to him, admiration is an acknowledgment of his superiority over others when he is alone on his planet. Again, the oddity of adults.

No less strange is the character of the entrepreneur. He was serious about counting stars and then he claimed his own. He bought the stars to then put in the bank, and he was written as the owner of many stars in the sky. that's all the goal is to count the number of stars.

The next planet contains a lantern igniter, he obeys the rules when the sun goes down he turns on the lantern as if giving light at night and when the sun rises he extinguishes it. And so on until the sun rotates once a minute. He remained obedient even though he did not have time to rest. It doesn't make sense but it's better than the previous characters.

The next planet contains a scientist who records earth science and he advises the Little Prince to visit earth because of its good name. “Earth, has hundreds of characters as above, 111 kings, 900 thousand businessmen, 7.5 million drunkards, you can imagine how vast and diverse the earth is. And hundreds of roses and mountains so pointed and towering."

One day on Earth, the little prince found a garden full of roses. A flower similar to the flower in his planet. However, even though the two flowers are physically the same, according to the little prince they are completely different. The flower he has tamed. A single flower on his planet is much more valuable than thousands of flowers on Earth, because he has guarded that flower for a long time. From the story about the flowers, there is a meaning, said by the fox to the little prince, “This is my secret. It's very simple: only through the heart can we see well. The most important thing is not visible to the eye." (page 88). What is not visible in the eyes, namely love and attachment relationships.

Strengths

With a simple language style, this book is able to teach us how to judge everything not only by looking at the 'cover', but also by judging from our hearts and feelings when we are with it. In short, this book invites us to see things as a child sees the world. Plain, beautiful, and what it is. That way we will actually be very close to true maturity.

This story also teaches us that the smallest things we can get with effort, will be far more valuable than similar things in large quantities but we never try and sacrifice for something.

This fairy tale by Saint-Exupéry will make many adults who read it feel sarcastic and reflect a little with stories of love, sacrifice, and the value of life. Therefore, Le Petit Prince is one of the most important fairy tales for all adults to read.

This novel has the advantage of not only presenting writing but also having illustrations in it which of course can increase the imagination of the readers in reading this novel and also make the readers not bored because they are treated to colorful illustrations.

Weakness

For ordinary readers, it is difficult to understand the meaning of the story, which is implied.

For people who like thick novels and have complex problems, maybe this book is too short to read.

Do You Think Social Media Is Good for Teens?

Do You Think Social Media Is Good for Teens?

It can be a difficult to understand why teenager uses social media so much. It might seem like they're always online, and always distracted from the life in front of them.  Social media is a way for teenagers to stay in touch with their friends. Teens have always talked after school, long before social media – hanging out at the bus stop, at the local park, chatting on the phone – now they just have a different platform to do so.

Being socially connected is very important for the psychological development of your child, and in this day and age, the online environment is where they get a lot of this. By connecting with others through social media, teens could develop better social skills, feel less isolated, learn about new cultural and societal ideas and issues, bond with their friends, have fun, be creative and share their own ideas with friends, be better equipped to be active citizens in society, develop real world skills to help them become more independent, and learn about world events and current affairs outside of their immediate environment.

Like any form of social engagement, social media comes with risks. Some of the most common risks include spending too much time online and being disconnected from the real world, being the victim of online bullying, damaging your online reputation, having your personal information shared online, being harassed or annoyed by someone you do not want attention from, being the victim of an online scam, and having reduced self-esteem (for some teenagers).

So the conclusion is we agree that social media is good for teenagers because there are many benefits that can be taken from the use of social media, but they must be able to control oneself so as not to get addicted to using social media and abuse it.

BOOK REVIEW "LASKAR PELANGI"

Hello everyone! My name is Yuma Yumna Jauza Maulidka and now I will review a book entitled “Laskar Pelangi” by Andrea Hirata.

The novel work of Andrea Hirata with a thick book of 534 pages contains a very interesting story. The story is in this Novel is the true story of an author in pursuit of his dream to the French State. This lively story touted to be used as a very interesting Film by renowned Director Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza. This novel is able to make the reader feel like drifting and carried into the story inside.

Andrea Hirata is someone who likes to dream in the run of his life. However, the dream he would try to become a reality. In the Novel he’s more telling about his past in Belitung. So the story is in this Novel is a true story which means true story is the same as the original place of the occurrence of the incident.

The language style of Andrea Hirata is considered good style and very interesting, in it besides using Indonesian Language also use Malay language which makes the reader look a little confusion and having to guess what the intent of the language.

There is a Groove in the Novel is a mix of Groove, but the more dominant plot is the forward plot. The author uses a first person perspective, because the author is a flagship store in this story. So that‘s the story for readers curious so would like to finish reading it. The novel contains many useful mandate for its readers. Andrea Hirata teaches us not to despair, in advance if they wish to achieve the desired dream.

The characters in the story are different from the way that other writers are used to. The main character of the story is named Ikal. He is a tough, smart, brave boy, and wants to learn for the sake of a dream he wants to realize. The next one is Lintang. Lintang's character is a boy who is very smart, genius, brave, but because of circumstances that made him drop out of school. The next one is Mahar. He is an eccentric boy who always cheers Ikal when he is sad.  Mahar in the story is described as having a great interest in the arts. Everywhere he always carried a small radio.  Sometimes Mahar looks for inspiration to compose a song on a tree. The next one is A Kiong. A Kiong is a Chinese.  Although ugly, he’s kind and helpful. Then there is Syahdan, a figure who does not stand out and is never noticed.  However, he has aspirations of becoming an actor. However of his hard work, he had the opportunity to become an actor even though his role was very small. Finally, because he was bored he decided to take a computer course and became a network designer. There is also a name called Kucai. Kucai has always been trusted to be the class leader in every generation of school.  Due to malnutrition, he is near sighted and his vision is distorted.  Since childhood, he was proficient as a politician and as an adult he became chairman of the Belitung DPRD faction. The next one is Sahara. Sahara is the only Ikal’s friend who is a girl of Laskar Pelangi member. She is stubborn person, obedient to religion, and a strong stance. She is smart and friendly one too. This book also have Borek. Borek is a man who always wants to look macho. As an adult, he worked as a coolie. Next is Trapani. This handsome man is kind and smart. However, being too dependent on his mother made him stay in a mental hospital. And the last one is Harun. Harun has mental retardation so he starts school late. He has a witty nature.

The advantage of this book is that the book contains stories of friendship and loyalty in making friends. In addition, it also emphasizes the importance of education. The story that is raised in the novel is very moving, there are many life lessons that can be learned in it.

The weakness of this novel is that many scientific names are used that are not familiar to the public so that the reader becomes uncomfortable. This will make it difficult for readers to understand the content of the story, especially if the glossary is not placed on the page where the word is located.

This Laskar Pelangi novel review can give a brief description of the story presented. One of the important points that the author wants to convey through the novel is that everything that happens in human life has been arranged by God.

So, that’s all that I can tell in this novel review. Hope it's useful. Sorry if there are many mistakes. Bye!

HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

Life in high school is not as easy as imagined. many challenges that must be overcome such as a busy school schedule, many assignments, endless tests, and so on. I'm sure everyone has their own way to solve their problems as a high school student. But I have tips for my friends, especially for high school students, namely how to be a successful student in high school.

I outline eight things that successful high school students do to maximize their learning opportunities and prepare for the future. Doing these things will not only help you to become a successful high school student, but a successful college student as well. Lay the foundation now for the mindset and work habits necessary in college and you’ll not only optimize your high school years but also hit the ground running when you graduate.

1. Set Short-Term and Long-Term Goals

Set realistic long-term goals and work backwards from those to set smaller short-term goals to act as stepping stones. Then, make a plan to achieve these goals. For example, if you want to self study for the university entrance exam, you should set some smaller goals to help prepare for it. By setting a deadline for ordering study books, joining online study programs, and completing tutorials, you break the big task down into smaller, more manageable pieces.

2. Master Time Management

In order to optimize your performance across multiple aspects of your life, you’ll need to develop strong time management skills. This means making and sticking to study schedules, developing systems of organization that work well for you, and learning the art of multitasking.

3. Be Active Outside the Classroom

Successful high school students don’t disappear outside the walls of their classroom. They are also engaged members of their community. Get involved with issues that impact your student experience. Educate yourself about the issues facing your community and learn to use your voice productively so that people will listen to your ideas.

4. Participate in Class

Successful students know, though, that class participation is a means towards the end. Students who participate in class are more engaged in their learning and are better able to encode information in their memories, since thoughtful questions and consideration lend context to new information. In addition, participating in class shows your teachers that you’re listening and thinking about the material that’s being presented. Teachers are more likely to think of you as a dedicated student when you participate regularly in class discussions.

5. Take Good Care of Yourself

Sometimes, when you are committed to being a strong student, a dedicated participant in outside activities, and a model of effective prep for standardized tests, you might forget that you also need to be committed to yourself. Getting enough sleep, eating well, and taking good mental care of yourself.

6. Find Your Passions

High school isn’t just a time to prove your intellect and capability of tackling college level work. You should also think of it as a unique opportunity to figure out what makes you tick. Students who can identify their passions and pursue them are more engaged and motivated to succeed. Experiment with different extracurriculars and pursue the activities that truly interest and fascinate you.

7. Earn Leadership Roles

Instead of spreading yourself thin and participating in many activities, try to focus on a few and advance to leadership roles. Successful students know that this focus and determination sets you apart more than simply a commitment to attend many weekly meetings.

8. Build and Use a Support Network

Build strong relationships with teachers and peers, establish connections with learning resources like the writer’s center or study hall teachers, and connect with mentors to ensure that you have a support system in place, even if you never use it. Further, don’t hesitate to reach out to the appropriate resource should you need a hand.

Nico's Weg

 Nico's Weg

Hello, welcome back to Yuma's blogger. today I want to discuss a film. I watched this film because I got an assignment to review a film called Nico's Weg. This film is in German. I watched this film to practice my dexterity in listening to German dialogue and of course I found new vocabulary. This film also trained me to understand better and know how to pronounce German expressions and intonations in everyday conversation. After I review this film, I will tell you what new vocabularies that I got from watching this film. No need to take a long time, let's just look at the review of  Nico's Weg!

This film tells the story of a man who wants to meet his aunt, Yara in Germany. the man named Nico. On that day Nico just came from Spain, his hometown. When he was at the airport, he met a little girl named Emma. Emma said that Nico's bag was good. not so long ago, Emma was called by Lisa. Nico left the airport and met Emma again. Emma is trying to blow her bubble but always fails. the kind Nico helped Emma to blow the bubbles. before that she put her bag on the sidewalk. There happened to be a taxi that wanted to take passengers. The taxi driver also helps the passenger to put his bag into the trunk of the car. Nico's bag was accidentally carried away by the taxi. Nico realized this and immediately called for the taxi driver but to no avail. the taxi driver did not hear. A confused Lisa immediately asked Nico what happened to him. Nico who is not good at speaking German, also explains in English and Lisa a little bit encourages him to get used to using German. Lisa finally asked Nico to solve his problem with her.

In the car, Emma also taught Nico how to speak German. Starting from self-introduction to learning about numbers. Coincidence, Lisa has a father who is a cop. Lisa also takes Nico to the police station where his father works. Lisa thought maybe her father could help Nico in finding his lost bag. Lisa also provided Nico with a place to live for a while. Lisa's friends are also very important in finding Nico's missing bag. Nico, who did not know where his aunt's address was, could only show her aunt's photo and explained that her aunt's name was Yara and she owned a bicycle shop. Lisa also asked for help from her father who was a police officer. Lisa's friends helped Nico by spreading photos of his aunt Nico on social media to find out where her address was. Many people help Nico such as finding his aunt's whereabouts, teaching German, inviting parties and inviting to play football together, driving Nico to the hospital when his leg is injured and so on. There is also a grandmother who provides a room for Nico and there is a friend who helps Nico accompany him to a clothing store.

In the end, Nico's bag was found. The beginning of the incident was the taxi driver who accidentally took Nico's bag and the passengers had arrived at their destination. The taxi driver lowered the passenger's bag and lowered Nico's bag. The passenger did not realize that next to his bag was Nico's bag because he was on the phone so he didn't focus. not too long ago, there were 2 men (apparently thugs or vagrants) who saw Nico's bag and took it. One of them said that don't take the bag and its contents. just take what's important. So they both decided to take Nico's shirt and Nico's bag just left near the electricity pole. then Nico's friend named Selma saw Nico's bag and made sure the bag belonged to Nico. Selma also met with Nico and gave the bag.  Then with the help of his friend, Nico went to his aunt's bicycle shop. And finally Nico also met his aunt there.

The moral message that I get from this film is we have to help each other. Work or solving a problem will be easier if we help each other. Here we are also taught that we must be friendly to everyone. if there are difficulties, then we can help as much as we can and comfort them when they are in a bad condition. And rest assured, every problem must have a solution. We also learn not to be a careless people. Who wants to experience events like Nico's? Lost the bag? Sprained leg? Learn to be a person who is careful in doing everything. And the equally important is to think calmly even under pressure.

Here I also found some German vocabulary similar to English such as Adresse which means address in English. Similar right? There is also fußball which means in English, namely football and so on. Some are similar to Indonesian. Like Tante who is exactly the same as Indonesian, namely Tante and so on.
